Twitter Hype? Bigger and stronger than Facebook hype?
Recently I have heard a lot about Twitter, much too much I think. What is all the excitement about? Status updates are nothing new, didn’t we have it on facebook, AIM and other IM clients? Well first of all, Twitter has gotten the attention of celebrities and their fans. Ashton Kutcher’s challenge with CNN to reach 1 million subscribers first didnt hurt of course. According to various articles I have read its ability to have easy access to the updates via SMS, online or other applications has made it very easy for non-web friendly users to use it. It also gained fast popularity when victims of the Mumbai attacks used it to report information. Also, when that plane crashed in the water in New York earlier this year a twitter user uploaded a picture before traditional media was able to do so.
In any case, we facebook users are not likely to catch on to the twitter bug just yet. We dont really feel the need yet, we like to have it all in one place unless some amazing features compell us to it. We are/were compelled to Facebook, Gmail, itunes, iphone, etc. because they had features that set it apart from the rest and were fun to use. Besides twitter just steals its ideas from the superior but less flashy friendfeed.com, don’t believe me? Check it out
