What’s up guys? Hope your summa has been terrific so far..In celebration of Electric Daisy Carnival festival (http://www.electricdaisycarnival.com/), which took place last weekend in the city of angels, Los Angeles, here is my second mix for the summa. Over 185,000 people attended the carnival and its a strong indication of the rising popularity and interest in dance (house/ progressive/ trance) music. Whoever said, no one listens to techno anymore? haha Let the craziness continue

It was extremely difficult to pick my favorite song of this set, but I would have to make a tie between Humanoid by Jochen Miller, Natural (Aaron Camz Remix) by Mark Junior and Black is the new Yellow (Original mix)- Super 8 & Tab feat Anton Sonin. The tracks mentioned above are amazing, have a unique vibe and are beautiful compositions.

I had to upload my first mix again (reset all settings) on the soundcloud server due to technical issues. Sorry if you could not check it out in the last few days. It is up and running (http://www.routeoneforlife.com/2010/06/in-the-mix-1-june-16-2010/). As always if you have a track which you would like to be featured in the next mix, please email me the track name, artist name at rohitbangera@gmail.com.

Last but not least, I want to share with you a club banger. The new single Feels like a prayer (Michael woods remix) by Meck feat Dino released under Toolroomrecords is insanely amazing. The video is slick but like all youtube videos ends abruptly

It is a crazy feeling which is hard to digest. I cannot imagine walking past an empty deserted Santa Fe (or popularly known as Fe) on a Thursday night. We have all had some memories at Fe. That first shot, the hot girl who you could not take your eyes off, bumping into an old friend etc. Fe was kind of a home away from home for me. I used to go to Fe literally every night as I was friends with most of the folks who worked at Fe. We used to have fun conversations and my indian accent did not help either. My awesome memory of Fe was the night I hung out Mark Srour, owner of Santa Fe, Mark and Cornerstone. Its funny as I bought him a drink at his own bar at Le Mark.He laughed at it and we went bar hopping from there to Fe and Cornerstone. We spoke about life and the vision he had for Fe. It is crazy to think, I hung out and drank with the owner of three bars in College Park but that is just how random my life is.

It is a fairytale ending for folks who worked at Fe in their senior year and are graduating.Fe will always be special for me for the people who ran it and the awesome memories. What’s your awesome/ funny memory of Fe been?

With just a few days left for Spring break to begin and the weather being fabulous, everyone is eager to get started on the best week of the semester, Spring break. Yes, it is that time of the year where you get to party in a tropical paradise, dress up like a jersey shore wannabe and show off your Miami abs. Well, there is more to Spring break than partying. If you have not made up your Spring break plans yet, here are some last minute pointers:

1. Road trips: Road trips can be an enjoyable way to spend quality time with a select few friends while enjoying the diversity and variety of different towns you pass by. It is cheap on the wallet too and extremely fun.

2. Last minute deals on cruises/ exotic getaways: It is going to be difficult to find a deal now. However, feel free to check these websites: www.studentuniverse.com and www.statravel.com. I use these websites regularly and get good student fares.

3. St. Patrick’s day in NYC: You definitely have to experience this. It is definitely a fun time to be in the city. Check out this website for more details: http://www.st-patricks-day.com/st_patricks_day_parades_united_states_new_york.html

4. Atlantic City/ Ocean City weekend getaway: Try getting in touch with that friend of yours who has a beach house and do offer to pay. This way, you can work for better part of Spring break and make money to pay for your Atlantic City/ Ocean City weekend getaway.

5. Ultra Music festival 2010: This is the mother of all dance concerts. Every big DJ is going to be there and it is all going down in Miami. Check out the website for the ridiculous lineup. http://www.ultramusicfestival.com/. The good thing is it falls on March 26 and 27, a week after Spring break. So, if you have not made up your plans yet, you could get a temp job over spring break and make money to pay for Ultra fest in Miami.

6. Productive: Spring break could also be a great excuse to pursue your creative element. You can do things which you always wanted to do like work on a painting, a business idea, and music video etc. whatever excites you and you are passionate about.

7. Make loot: You could make good money over Spring break to pay for your textbooks next semester. People often need help during Spring break and you can always let people in your community know of your availability to work during break. A good step would be to contact a local temp agency, ask parents or even the company you interned last summer for a job over the break.

8. Alternative Spring break: This has been extremely popular among students as it is cheap and a good way to give back to the community. It is late to apply this year but you should definitely apply for it next year.

9. Sell your stuff: Do you have lots of stuff in your closet and your room back home which you no longer use? Well, get on ebay and sell them.

10. Shamrock festival: A great way to jump start Spring break. Check out the website for more details: http://www.shamrockfest.com/2010/

For all those ballers heading off to Spring break, here are a few safe pointers:
http://www.safespringbreak.org/safety-tips/

Have a fun, safe and awesome Spring break!

It’s black history month and before the snow hit student organizations were off to a great start celebrating.

The Nyumburu Cultural Center and the Black Student Union kicked off the first day of February with a soul food dinner and performances including the singing of the black national anthem, “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”

They also invited motivational speaker Steve Birdine, four-time International Polaris of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. to discuss the state of black affairs.

Birdine spoke on various topics but the main piece of wisdom he imparted was the importance of changing our focus as a people.

“If you change your focus, you change your life,” he said.

Birdine, also, talked about how black people focus too much on the negative and how as result we stop thinking about the positive completely.

“We are the only people in the world that put our worst stuff on CD and sell it.” He went on to say that we must “regather the ability to love each other” so that we can be in a relationship with ourselves and our culture more than twenty-eight days out of the year.

The next event of the night was a panel discussion hosted by the Pan Hellenic Council.

They invited alumni from 1970s, 80s, and 90s to discuss the ways in which black Greek life has changed since they joined their respective organizations.

Each member of the panel touched on the topic of unity.

They referred to all members of the PHC as “the family” and talked about how they road tripped, stepped, and co-sponsored programs together.

Shaila Jackson, a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, talked about how every other school wanted to be like UMCP. “It was the most exciting time of my life,” she said.

“We had a sense of community,” said Anthony Harris of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, “we stuck together because we had no one else.”

Overall the theme of the first night of black history month seemed to be the importance of unity. An important message to both the black community and the university as a whole.

And suddenly, like light in darkness, the real truth broke in upon me; the simple fact of Man, which I had forgotten, which had lain deep buried and out of sight; the idea of community, of unity. ~Ernst Toller
